In recognition of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the MCHS Library sponsored a contest to see which participants could pen the most words toward a working manuscript. National Novel Writing Month is an annual Internet-based creative writing project that takes place during the month of November. Participants attempt to write a 50,000-word manuscript between November 1 and November 30.
The MCHS Library recognized #BigLibraryRead Nov. 4-18. #BigLibraryRead is the only global eBook reading club and offers all students the same FREE digital title at the same time without any wait lists or holds. The featured young adult title this year was I’m Not Dying with You Tonight by Kimberly Jones. This title was available through our school’s new Sora reading app. |
OCTOBER 2019

On Thursday, October 10, the Montgomery Central High School Library Media Center hosted New York Times bestselling author, Ted Chiang, to an audience of 450 students. In cooperation with the Humanities of Tennessee, MCHS was selected as one of the few Middle Tennessee Title I schools to receive an author visit along with the provision of free books for all attendees. The mission of Humanities Tennessee’s Student Reader Day program is to promote the importance of literacy and literature in a young person’s life and encourage young people to read for pleasure and personal growth. The program is supported through generous donations from both the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Visiting librarians and book club members from other CMCSS high schools also were in attendance.
The schedule of events included an author introduction followed by a reading excerpt from Chiang’s latest bestseller, Exhalation: Stories. A quick Q&A session and book signings for all attendees ended the presentation. Ted Chiang is a Chinese American science fiction writer and resident of Seattle, Washington. He has won numerous honors for his work, including four Nebula, Hugo and Locus awards and the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. His novella, “Story of Your Life”, was also the basis for the 2016 movie, Arrival, starring Amy Adams. |
Spooky things were happening the entire month of October inside the MCHS Library! Students were invited to come by and take a scary selfie or group shot at our monster photo booth, get their futures foretold by our resident fortune teller and/or decorate their own Halloween masks.
The MCHS Library celebrated "TeenTober" the entire month of October. TeenTober
aims to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services and the innovative ways
teen services helps teens learn new skills, and fuel their passions in and outside the
